Sorting

Snack time in preschool isn't just for eating in preschool.  We use every opportunity during our day for learning.  Whenever we have a snack that can be sorted we sort!  This is a skill that your young child will use for years to come.  In Kindergarten sorting is one of the first math skills a child is assessed on.  There are many ways to sort items (color is the most common).  I encourage you to sort with your child at home.  You can sort laundry, sort groceries, sort toys etc...  Sort by size, object type, color, shape, etc...  We have begun sorting objects by their beginning sounds.  Right now we are working on B vs. T.  Here are a few photos from some snack time sorting of gold fish.  Yesterday the students in  my A Day began sorting their animal crackers without a prompt.  Go Preschoolers!
