Snow Day Science

No better way to spend a cold frigid day than to do a little science experimenting with the preschool class.  Each child was given a cup with a little water.  We recorded predictions of what would happen to the water after it was left in the snow during the school day.  (B Day photos to come soon).

Introducing the scientific method of hypothesizing, experimenting and drawing conclusions begins at a very young age and we love to encourage it in our preschool class.  The students made predictions such as melting, freezing, and turning into snow.  Recording predictions is one of the first ways to introduce that writing has a purpose.
We checked on our water half way through the day.  We noticed that the top froze but not the bottom.

At the end of the day we discovered that all the water froze in the cold snow.  We then took our new ice cubes to the sink to see what would happen when we put them in warm water.

Of course it was too cold to play out in the snow so we brought snow into our sensory table.  We added a liquid eye droppers (to work on fine motor), water colors (more science) and had a blast playing with the snow.   Remember a young child's work is their play.
