During our market theme several students began pretending to work on our classroom.  Our sink in our dramatic play center needed a new pipe so a few students became plumbers.  Our table was broken and needed a new leg so another group of student decided to be "fixer men" and fix it.  Before I knew it the students had started a construction theme without any prompting from the teachers.  Due to the student interest we decided to implement a construction theme in our class.  All of the students are invested in the learning and it couldn't be better.  We call this type of planning student lead.  It's my favorite because when I lesson plan based on student learning and make sure we hit the standards in all the learning centers based on their interests even more learning takes place.  Here are just a few photos from our student lead construction theme.  We have a pendulum serving as a wrecking ball in our science center, tools and wood in our dramatic play, a variety of new blocks in the block center,  and we've kept a kitchen in our other dramatic play center but added a few baby dolls.

 

We welcome Brennan and Donnie to the Tuesday/Thursday class.  We now have 10 students in this class.

Have a very Happy Thanksgiving.  I hope it is full of good health and quality time with family.

 

Looking ahead to next week we have our field trip coming up to the museum center.  If you have signed up to chaperone you should have received a note about what time to arrive to school.  It is important that everyone packs a bag lunch for the field trip in a paper bag that can be disposed of before we come back to school.  Remember no peanut butter.

Here are a few more pictures from last week.  We spent some time in the motor room working on our motor skills.  As you can see we colored turkey feathers while on our belly.  This works not only on  fine motor skills but also core body strength.  We used the scooter boards to take the feathers to the turkey.

Here are some photos from when we made soup.  Every child had an opportunity to add an ingredient and taste the soup.  I must say it was pretty good.  We had many students who really enjoyed eating it while others didn't as much.
